ST. ANDREW CCD PROGRAM 2009-2010

The beginning of a new school year is a chance to start over.
Parents are called to teach their children to pray,
to be disciples, to stress Christian values over secular ones.
Parents have the obligation to show their children
The way of stewardship through their words and actions.

Welcome to St. Andrew CCD Program
The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine was an association established at Rome in 1562 for the purpose of giving religious education. Its modern is often abbreviated CCD.
It is a religious education program of the Catholic Church normally designed for children.
CCD education is provided by both members of the clergy and lay catechists who are certified or pursuing an active means to acquire certification. CCD attendance is considered by our church to be vital to children’s development as Catholics. These classes not only educate children about our Lord Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith, but also prepare children to receive the sacraments of reconciliation (confession), Holy Communion, and confirmation.
Every child is a precious gift of our loving God to us. Let us all pray that we would faithfully do our responsibility to form them in our Christian faith to be “Christ-Like.” We pray that parents may continually expose their children to an atmosphere of prayer and faith experiences in their home, as CCD teachers will do in the classrooms. Encourage your children by teaching them to pray, to be present in our community mass celebrations, to be loving and respectful, and to always display gratitude to God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
As we all contribute to the religious education of your children, may they grow to be better Catholic Christians of our day. May your children become the source of your joy and peace.
I am grateful to you dear parents for enrolling your children to our CCD program. I am grateful to our volunteer teachers for sharing of their time, talent and treasure. I am grateful to St. Andrew Community for making this CCD program one of our vital ministries.
May God bless us and guide us in all our endeavors.

Safe Environment
As required by the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, St. Andrew has implemented the Safe Environment Program for the protection of the children and young people. Providing a safe environment entails training and educating parents, volunteers and young people as to what child abuse is: how to recognize sighs of abuse and what to do if you suspect or know that a child is being abused.
Any adult wishing to work with the youth of St. Andrew Parish must attend the Safe Environment Initial Training course. Please contact the parish office for additional information.
If you have already attended the initial training you must do a follow-up course every year. All volunteers will be informed of the follow-up training dates as they are scheduled.
